Privacy Policy

Jennifer Raines

Anyone with a website needs to have a privacy policy. It’s a requirement of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), the DPA (Data Protection Act) and the PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulation), and a number of other pieces of legislation.
However, I – Jennifer Raines – am going to make this as simple as I can. I have zero interest in algorithms except I know they’re on the evil side of the ledger, and zero interest in clogging my brain with other people’s data. I value your privacy as much as I value my own. Any data collected or stored is needed to provide you with a service or to provide you with news about my writing. This policy applies to my website only. Other sites have their own policies.

What Information I collect and why?
Blog subscription or Contact form:

I use Mailchimp for my blog and email lists. You only join my blog list if you subscribe, then the system will record your email address and name so you receive the blog. I’ll only use blog subscribers’ names and emails for sending blogs or, in exceptional cases, sending a message from me.
Mailchimp automatically adds tracking things to links, and collects the stats on that, which they provide to me. My main interest in stats is discovering if anyone is interested in what I have to say.
I never share subscriber information with a third party. I will not be asking for any credit/debit card details on this site. You may unsubscribe at any time, either by clicking the unsubscribe button in the email or contacting me. You can ask me to delete your data at any time and I’ll do it, including from my email address book if you’ve made it there.

Social media

I’m on FaceBook and am happy to hear from readers, however you don’t need to like me. If you’re on my site and getting what you need, that’s terrific.

Cookies

WordPress and some of the other plugins I use on the site use cookies. Typically, cookies are placed on your hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about you. This includes non-personal information like your browser name, means of connection to the site, and other non-identifying information.
You can set your web browser to refuse cookies, or to send an alert when cookies are being sent. If you do, some parts of the site may not function properly.

Third-party links

I will not sell, trade or rent your information to third parties, and will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. Sometimes I will include third-party links through email or on the website. These sites have their own policies and you should read those before subscribing or purchasing from them.
I may pass your information to my third party service providers for the purposes of completing tasks and providing requested services to you on our behalf, such as Mailchimp to distribute the blogs. I will only disclose the information necessary to deliver the service. I won’t release your information to any other third parties unless I’m required to do so by law.

Security of Information

All information is saved by WordPress.com and only I can access it. In today’s world no data is 100% safe, but we take data security seriously. I will notify subscribers within 7 days of any data breach.

Use of the Website by Minors

All subscribers must be 16 or older or have the consent of a parent or guardian.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

I may update this privacy policy from time to time. I’ll let you know via the website itself and through my newsletter. The most recent review date for my policy is listed at the end of the policy. It’s your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically and become aware of modifications.

Your Acceptance of These Terms

By visiting and using jenniferrainesauthor.com, you are indicating your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, you can simply not use the site. Continued use of the site means you accept the policy and any periodic changes.
