This Policy is meant to inform those who are concerned with how their Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is being used online. PII is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context.
This Policy explains when and why I collect personal information about people who visit my website, how I use that information, and what I do with it. Having a Privacy Policy is a legal requirement in many jurisdictions and, as you know, the world wide web is everywhere.
This Policy applies to all visitors, regardless of home country.
What Information I collect and why?
Who am I?
My name is Jennifer Raines. I’m a writer who wants to reach my readers to showcase my work and make connections, so I’ll make this as simple as I can. My main interest in the data collected by the providers I use is discovering if anyone is interested in what I have to say.
I have zero interest in algorithms except I know they’re on the evil side of the ledger, and zero interest in clogging my brain with other people’s data. I value your privacy as much as I value my own. Any data collected or stored is needed to provide you with a service or to provide you with news about my writing. This policy applies to my website only. Other sites have their own policies.
Blog chat or Contact form:
I use MailChimp to create an email list for my blog chat. You only join my blog chat list if you subscribe, then the system will record your email address and name so I can send you the blog chat. I’ll only use blog chat subscribers’ names and emails for sending blog chats or, in exceptional cases, sending a message from me.
My contact form comes directly to me as an email, and I delete emails when I have dealt with the issue.
Social media
I’m on FaceBook and Instagram and am happy to hear from readers, however you don’t need to follow me. If you’re on my site and getting what you need, that’s terrific.
Cookies
WordPress, MailChimp and some of the other plugins I use on the site use cookies. Typically, cookies are placed on your hard drive for record-keeping purposes and sometimes to track information about you. This includes non-personal information like your browser name, means of connection to the site, and other non-identifying information.
You can set your web browser to refuse cookies, or to send an alert when cookies are being sent. If you do, some parts of the site may not function properly.
Third-party links
I will not sell, trade or rent your information to third parties, and will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. Sometimes I will include third-party links through email or on the website. These sites have their own policies and you should read those before subscribing or purchasing from them.
I may pass your information to my third-party service providers for the purposes of completing tasks and providing requested services to you on our behalf, such as Mailchimp and to distribute the blog chats. I will only disclose the information necessary to deliver the service. I won’t release your information to any other third parties unless I’m required to do so by law.
Security of Information
In today’s world no data is 100% safe, but I take data security seriously. I will notify subscribers within 7 days of any data breach I am aware of.
Information shared with me will be transferred to the United States then to Australia, no matter the originating country. My host provider is located in the United States, whereas I reside in Australia.
Mailchimp, WordPress and my social media accounts store the data they collect. I access the analytical data provided by those providers. Only my web designer and I can access WordPress and MailChimp.
I never share subscriber information with a third party. I will not be asking for any credit/debit card details on this site. You may unsubscribe at any time, either by clicking the unsubscribe button on the site or at the bottom of each blog post or by contacting me. You can ask me to delete your data at any time and I’ll do it, including from my email address book if you’ve made it there.
Use of the Website by Minors
I don’t promote the information or services of this site to children under the age of 16. Visitors under the age of 16 should get their parent/guardian’s permission before sharing PII with us.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
I may update this policy from time to time. I’ll let you know via the website itself and through my blog chat. The most recent review date for my policy is listed at the end of the policy. It’s your responsibility to review this Privacy Policy periodically and become aware of modifications.
